Free backpacks, supplies for upcoming school year

Wareham residents can pick up free school supplies and backpacks at the Gleason Family YMCA ahead of the school year on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Walt's Mobile Closet, a South Coast Massachusetts nonprofit that provides free clothing to people in need, will be distributing the supplies and backpacks. The distribution event is open to everyone and attendees are asked to bring their children to pick up the free backpacks and supplies. The organization has hosted several Back to School events in Wareham in recent years. 

In addition to school supplies, Walt's Mobile Closet will have used adult and youth clothing and shoes available for free. There will also be a kid activities station with spin art, hula hoops, crafts and more, according to the nonprofit.
