Sally Gibbs Sachs passed away peacefully after a brief illness on February 21, 2024 in Plymouth, MA. Born February 25, 1932 in Wareham, MA to Ruel Savery Gibbs and Hazel Kimball Gibbs, Sally grew up in the family business, Slocum-Gibbs Cranberry Company.

A graduate of Abbot Academy (‘49) and Wellesley College (‘53), Sally often recounted meeting T.S. Eliot at Abbot when he visited Emily Hale on campus. Sally’s love of travel began with a cross country graduation road trip with her friends in her beloved MG. She settled in New York City and worked as a buyer for Macy’s and then as a manager for New York Telephone Company. She married George Sachs (d.2014) in 1955 and they moved to Munich for the US Army - and brought the MG with them. Over the years, Sally lived in New York City; Munich, Germany; Guadeloupe; Burundi; South Dartmouth, MA; Clearwater, FL; and Jensen Beach, FL.  Her most precious souvenir from her travels was her beloved dog, May, from Guadeloupe. She loved the NYT Crossword, painting, reading three newspapers a day, playing bridge, seafood, dogs, and birdwatching. She adored reading but also enjoyed watching Call the Midwife and the Incredible Dr. Pol. Sally especially loved adventurous eating - one of her favorite activities was introducing her nephews & nieces to new cultures & cuisines - - she often said she only disliked tripe!

Sally was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, George Sachs, her sister, Martha Gibbs Garretson and brother-in-law, John Haldeman Garretson Jr. She is survived by her nephews Gary Garretson of South Carver, MA and Gibby Garretson of Marshfield, MA, her niece, Sarah Garretson Lowry of Marshfield,MA, and grandnieces Heather Garretson Bragdon of Dover, MA, Megan Garretson of North Kingstown, RI, Jessica Garretson of Plainfield, VT and Sarah Garretson DeCoste of South Yarmouth, MA.
