Police Chief Walter Correia, Jr. can serve past mandatory retirement age
Oct 26, 2026
Police Chief Walter Correia, Jr. will be able to serve in his position for up to seven more years, past the mandatory retirement age of 65.
Town Meeting voted in favor of letting Correia remain in the position until he reaches the age of 70. Correia is currently 63 years old.
Correia has been “great for our community,” said Town Administrator Derek Sullivan at the Oct. 26 Fall Town Meeting.
He will need to be mentally and physically capable, which will require an annual physician’s examination.
Correia was hired by the Police Department in 1994. He served as patrol officer, detective and sergeant before being promoted to lieutenant in 2018. He became the Chief of Police in 2021 after the retirement of former Chief John Walcek.
