Wareham Middle School art students will have their work on display at the Blue Foot Cafe, 379 Main Street, throughout the month of February, announced Superintendent Matthew D’Andrea and Unified Arts Department Chair Andrea Ericson.

There will be a gallery show on Saturday, Feb. 3 from 10 to 11 a.m., with students at the cafe with their families to discuss and celebrate their work.

"The students have worked so hard during class to create pieces for this show," Ericson said. "I can't wait to share their art with the community."

The featured artwork was created by 25 students in grades 5-7 in a variety of mediums, including oil pastels, watercolors and fiber arts.

Ericson and Wareham Middle School Art Teacher Cynthia Gedraitis had the idea to organize the show after noticing art on the walls of the Blue Foot Cafe while getting coffee there recently. The cafe often highlights the work of local artists and they approached the owner about their idea.

Both Ericson and Gedraitis expressed the importance of celebrating the students' hard work with the community and shared that inspiration from their work is often drawn from the curriculum.

"Our students' art is a blend of their personal feelings and moods combined with what they've learned in class," Gedraitis said. "It's great to see them develop their own styles and feel confident in putting their work on display for others to share and appreciate."
