Hazardous Waste Collection Day draws long line
Traffic backed up more than half-mile along Charge Pond Road on Saturday, Aug. 1 as residents lined up to dispose of various "hazardous" materials.
The annual collection day often draws long lines. In 2023, residents waited in their cars for nearly two hours at the Municipal Maintenance Building.
According to the Town Administrator's office, the collection event was "very busy" and long lines were due to the sometimes extensive time it takes to sort and collect items. A representative from the office added that the collection "went as smoothly as it can."
The waste collection was open to residents with a valid 2026 Wareham Transfer Station or Carver Transfer Station sticker. Among the list of accepted items were household chemicals, gasoline, fire extinguishers and lead paint. Televisions, monitors and CPUs were also being collected.
