A game show, Baylor Twift and a whole lot of hijinks with Wareham High School Theater
The stage is set in more ways than one with Wareham High School's submission to the annual high school theater festival.
Wareham High School will be competing in the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild's annual theater festival Saturday, March 7. Students will be performing "Whooo Are Youuu?" in front of several area high schools.
The festival requires schools to stage a one-act play lasting less than 40 minutes and perform in front of a panel of judges. Those competing have five minutes to set up the stage before the performance, adding another layer to the competition.
The show will be scored and compared to other schools with the top three placements moving on to semi-finals and then to state festivals. With a cast of funky characters, the play follows TV host Buck Lucket as he runs around and prepares his show for an appearance from America’s biggest pop star, Baylor Twift.
Student director for the show, Trivia Amezian said she had so many ideas for the show that her "brain was overflowing." As the show has progressed over practices, the end product is something she will be proud of no matter how it places.
"Seeing the show come to fruition from the costuming, to the set and the actors I've given guidance to has been such a fulfilling experience for me. It fills me with joy knowing we're going to be putting this on," she said.
Amezian said she believes the show is ready to go on the big stage as details, blocking and set design is finishing up. As a senior, this will be her last set of festivals.
"It feels almost exhilarating— almost unreal. When you're in senior year, time feels like it's not real anymore," she said.
Junior Sabrina Bell is performing in a "big role," for the first time having only done supporting roles in the past. She plays the assistant to the main character, an energetic character named Ronny Lonny.
"It was a little scary to have so many lines but it's just like dance, you just muscle memory all of it," Bell said.
Her love for the stage is something she said has kept her going, and that she can't wait to see the other schools put on their shows. Though the set has given the cast some trouble, she said everyone is "absolutely," ready to compete.
"All the tiny pieces are coming together, we started from literally nothing," she said.
The show will compete at Middleboro High School on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
