Dennis F. Thompson, 79
WAREHAM - Dennis F. Thompson, 79 of Wareham, MA passed away from a brief illness at Royal Cape Cod in Buzzards Bay, MA. He was born September 17, 1947 in Chelsea, MA to his parents Laura Thompson (Skalecki) and Lt. Colonel William Thompson.
He is survived by his wife Linda A. Thompson (nee Zacchilli) of 50 yrs., his daughter Lisa Romano, and grandsons Joseph A. Romano, III, and Anthony E. Romano of Malden, Ma. He is also survived by his sister Dianne Rabidou (Thompson) and her husband Dennis of Cherry Valley, MA. Brothers, Paul Thompson and his wife Sandy, of South Carolina, Stephen Thompson and his wife Gail, of Medway, MA and Michael Thompson of San Diego, CA. He also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Dennis graduated from Natick High School 1965, where he met his high school sweetheart, and the love of his life, his wife Linda of 50 yrs. He proudly served in the Army Reserves, where he trained for combat where he received numerous medals and achievements. He also trained in Germany.
He later graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Finance from Northeastern University. While working at Ford Motor Company during the daytime, he attended Northeastern at night and the Army Reserves on the weekends until his daughter, Lisa was born. He retired from the reserves and moved his family to Wareham, MA in 1979.
He loved everything outdoors, boating, hunting, archery, and fishing and shooting.
He had a lengthy career in the automotive industry for over 35 yrs. Over the years, he worked with many automotive companies, Ford Motor Company, American Motors Corp., Subaru of New England, and Belize Ford in Hyannis.
If you knew my dad, you know he loved to talk. He would talk to anyone and always made friends. He was a perfectionist and set in his ways, but also had a soft side and loved to have fun. On Friday nights, him and Linda enjoyed going out to eat and having a great martini and they love attending holiday parties at the Monument Beach Sportsman's Club He made friends no matter where he went. He was passionate about his family, work, hunting and all things cars & trucks. When he retired, he served on the Board of Directors at the Monument Beach Sportsman's Club in Buzzards Bay, where he received many achievement awards and also taught the importance of gun safety to the public. In his later years, he was unfortunately diagnosed with Dementia, and was forced to slowed down. He had been in the hospital and was eventually transferred to rehabilitation where his health rapidly declined. He passed on September 29, 2026, shortly after his 79th birthday.
His services are being held privately. Arrangements are by Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.
