On Tuesday, Nov. 7, Wareham Police, with help from other departments, apprehended two individuals following a car and foot chase.

The two were identified as Inasia Louis-Charles, 24, of Westport and Lashii Ortiz, 28, of New Bedford. Ortiz had an Oct. 31 warrant out for his arrest for an alleged armed home invasion in Wareham, felony use of a firearm and armed assault in a dwelling with a firearm.

Ortiz was discovered when police conducted a traffic stop at approximately 11:15 p.m. of a blue sedan on Onset Avenue, where the driver, Louis-Charles, appeared nervous with the officers on the scene and eventually drove off at a high rate of speed, according to police. 

The two led police onto Cranberry Highway, Route 25 and Interstate 195 westbound hitting speeds estimated over 100 miles per hour, according to Wareham Police. 

Marion officers assisting the department deployed “stop sticks” as the blue sedan entered Marion on Interstate 195 westbound, which successfully stopped the vehicle. 

However, Ortiz fled the scene, leading Wareham, Marion, Mattapoisett and State Police along with the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department on a foot chase through the woods by the highway.

The police were able to locate Ortiz and place him into custody for his outstanding warrant and Louis-Charles was charged with failure to stop for police, negligent operation and numerous other motor vehicle offenses.

Ortiz was arraigned at Wareham District Court on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
