Town hires new EMS director

Jan 23, 2024

The Select Board voted to confirm the appointment of Bradford Allen to the position of Emergency Medical Services director during a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The appointment is made by Town Administrator Derek Sullivan.

Allen has 17 years of experience in different roles in the field of emergency services, including as an Emergency Medical Technician, as a paramedic, as a paramedic educator, as a U.S. Army healthcare specialist and as a call firefighter, said Town Administrator Derek Sullivan. He has spent seven years as a paramedic with Wareham EMS, and has been promoted to a lieutenant position during that time.

Sullivan added, Allen has been the president of the Professional Firefighters of Mass Local 2895 for the past four years, he is a member of the union's collective bargaining team and he is working on his bachelor’s degree for emergency medical services administration.

"Mr. Allen's many years of experience, [his] dedication to the department and the town and [his] pursuit of further education makes him more than qualified to advance to the role as the director of EMS," said Sullivan.

Allen said he appreciated the opportunity, and looked forward to working with the department and to bringing it into the future.

Allen replaces longtime EMS Director David Evans, who served the town for 42 years before his retirement Friday, Dec. 29, 2023.

"It is large shoes to fill," said Allen. "I look forward to bringing our department into the future, and hopefully being the next 42 years guy."
