Meat raffle with Redmen Hall

Redmen Hall will host its monthly meat raffle on Friday, May 3 at 745 Main Street. 

Doors open at 6 p.m. and a meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. The cost for the meal is $8. 

Raffles start at 7 p.m.

The Redmen Hall meat raffle is usually held on the first Friday of every month. For more information, please call the Redmen Hall at 508-291-0882.

Saturday, May 4

Dog paw-ty to celebrate anniversary of dog park

The Dog Park Affiliation of Wareham will hold a First Birthday Paw-ty for the Wareham Dog Park on Saturday, May 4. 

The park will be open all day, but the party is from 1 to 3 p.m. 

There will be human cake and pup cups, activites such as card making and rocks painting, Unleash gallery, park info and tee shirts. 

There will be a blessing of the dogs at 1:15, followed by the cake cutting. 

Overflow parking is on the bog side of Maple Springs Road. Dogs must be on leash in the parking lot and the street. 

Monday, May 6

Council on Aging seeks friends

The Friends of the Wareham Council on Aging will have its first general meeting on Monday, May 6 in the community room at the Council on Aging, 48 Marion Road, at 9 a.m.

Members can come and join for coffee and muffins. Membership cards will be distributed at the meeting. 

The Friends will be looking for volunteers wanting to help as officers and board members for the 2024-25 term. The Friends is also hoping to establish committees to work on specific events for the next year. 

The Friends thanks the over 175 individuals who have so far become members. 

Tuesday, May 7

Remove invasive species at Red Brook Trail

The Wareham Land Trust has announced its first May trail workday as part of its bimonthly trail day initiative. Volunteers are requested to bring their own work gloves. The Land Trust will provide tools such as clippers, loppers and saws, but volunteers may also bring your own. Water, bug spray, sunscreen and appropriate woods attire is encouraged.

On Tuesday, May 7, the Land Trust and volunteers will remove invasive species from the Red Brook Trail Network. They will meet at 10 a.m. and work until about 12 p.m.

The Land Trust’s second May workday will take place at Stoney Run, 600 Main Street, on a date to be determined. 

Wednesday, May 8

Garden talk at the library

Expert gardener Peggy will offer a workshop on Wednesday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wareham Free Library, 59 Marion Road. 

Peggy will take participants through some of her lessons and experiences. She will bring examples from her personal garden and take questions on a variety of gardening topics. She may even bring some cuttings to share. 

The program is free and no registration is required. It is sponsored by the Friends of the Wareham Free Library.
