One game at a time for girls basketball

Feb 6, 2024

The Wareham High School varsity girls basketball team moved up to 10-6 in the standings with a dominating win over Atlantis Charter School on Monday, Feb. 5, scoring 51 buckets to the opposing team's 11.

Ten wins is "basically three times more than we had last year, and we've already surpassed what we've done in the last three years," said Head Coach Mike Fortune.

All the same, the team still has a long way to go, he said.

"We have to focus on every game in front of us right now," Fortune said. He added the team still needs to win one more game to secure itself a playoffs tournament berth, and it has some tough teams yet to play.

"There's times we come out and play really, really well, and there's other times we come out and we don't play well," Fortune said. "We get a little bit of pressure and sometimes we crack, but for the most part it's been a positive experience.”

The team as a whole has come in and worked hard throughout the season, he said. "The season's going great, the girls are great [and] we've learned a lot."
