A man alleged to be driving under the influence of alcohol now faces charges after crashing into a fence and another vehicle.

The Wareham Police Department arrested Cody Connolly, 32, in the morning of Saturday, Oct. 7, and charged him with operating under the influence of alcohol, failure to stop, leaving the scene, property damage and drug offenses.

Earlier that morning, just after 1 a.m., an officer attempted to stop a black Buick sedan on Onset Avenue. The vehicle at first pulled over, then drove off at high speeds and crashed into a fence and a parked vehicle near Union Avenue.

The vehicle's operator—identified by witnesses as Connolly—fled the scene on foot, discarding a plastic bag as he went. Officers located Connolly after a search, and arrested him without incident. They found suspected cocaine and mushrooms inside the bag.

Connolly will be arraigned at Wareham District Court on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
