Gravy trains, touchdowns and tackles on Thanksgiving

Nov 15, 2023

Gobble, gaze and get ready to gloat at the upcoming Thanksgiving football game.

The boys of Wareham High School’s football team will be heading to Spillane Field Thursday, Nov. 23 for a game against Bourne High School.

The game begins at 10 a.m. Admission is $5 per person.

Interim Head Coach Chris Gardner said the team is “really looking forward to the game.”

He added the boys hope they can take back their trophy from Bourne as they haven’t had it for a few years.

Gardner, who also serves as the track and field hockey coach for the high school, recently became the interim head coach after the controversial resignation of Brandon Perry.

Perry, who started as head coach of the football team this past spring, cited a “toxic work environment” as his reason for leaving before the season’s end.

Perry said certain underclassmen players and their parents pressured him and his staff, wanting more playing time for the younger kids.

Principal Scott Palladino said although the school cannot comment on the matter at this time, “there are two sides to every story.”

He added there a lot of “inaccuracies” going around that he hopes to address soon.
