Council on Aging rocked by guitar lesson turnout

Mar 7, 2023

Contrary to what was published in the Feb. 23 and March 2 issues of Wareham Week, there will be no guitar and ukulele lessons at the Council on Aging this month.

The incorrect information came from an inaccurate flyer posted in the Multi-Service Center.

The lessons, scheduled to begin on Friday, April 7, have received much higher turnout than Council on Aging Director Sharon Rice was expecting.

“We’re beyond capacity at this point,” she said. “We have to screen people for dates of birth because I’m not sure if they’re all seniors.”

10 people have signed up for the class, and 25 are on a waitlist.

The Council on Aging is providing instruments free of charge for the duration of each lesson. Funding for the instruments was provided by Ernie Boch, a car dealership owner who funds music programs for senior citizens and students throughout Massachusetts.

Local musician Peter Gugliotta will teach the lessons, possibly in groups of 10 for 45 minutes at a time, but the details are still unknown.

To join the waitlist, call 508-291-3130 by Friday, March 10.
